Welcome to Regents
Regents is a strategic tile-placement game where players place cities, roads and forests and expand influence with regents. The goal is to score the most victory points by clever tile placement and regent deployment.
Players: 2-5
Duration: 30-90 minutes
Objective of the game
Score points by controlling cities, roads and forests with your regents. At game end the player with the most points wins.
Key rules (short)
- Each player always has 2 tiles in hand.
- A turn consists of: place one tile, and optionally place one regent when allowed.
- Scoring is automatic: some actions grant immediate points, others award points on completion or at game end.
- Turns are auto-completed and passed to the next player.
- Players can cede their turn and play against bots for an easier entry into the game.
-
Starting a session
In the main menu go to "New Game". Here you can invite friends and add bots to the session. Choose settings and click "Start Regents Session" to open the lobby.
All players must accept and, if needed, choose a color/identifier. Once at least 2 players have accepted, the session can start.
-
The first turn & setup
At the start each player receives 2 tiles in hand. Four tiles are placed face-up in the center as the starting area (depending on configuration).
The starting player begins; turn order proceeds clockwise.
-
Turn structure
Each player always keeps 2 tiles in hand. During your turn perform the following steps:
- Place one tile on the board (with rotation if allowed).
- Optional: place one regent on a special building (town hall, sawmill, market, road) when placement rules allow.
- After your actions your hand is refilled to 2 tiles and the turn is automatically passed.
Scoring is automatic: certain events (such as completing a road as a trade route) give immediate points; other points are awarded at game end.
-
Regents and scoring overview
Each player has 8 regents that can fulfill different roles depending on where they are placed:
- Governor (Town Hall): scores points for added house tiles in that city. Shared cities split points.
- Forester (Sawmill): scores at the start of the turn for connected forest areas (minimum 3 tiles).
- Merchant (Road): scores when roads complete and can create trade routes for bonus points.
- Trade Post Manager (Market): scores end-game points for trade routes connected to special buildings.
Merchants return to the supply when a road is completed; other regents typically remain until game end.
-
End of the game
The game ends when all tiles have been placed. Perform final scoring:
- Governors: final points for connected city tiles and houses.
- Foresters: final forest scoring.
- Merchants: incomplete roads score end-game points per tile.
- Trade Post Managers: end-game bonuses for trade routes.
The player with the most points wins.
